That’s the thing about vendors who puts ads in software. The moment you’ve done it at least once, you’re now a vendor who puts ads in your software.
I don’t know why I care. I don’t use Apple Maps. I think it’s because I see this form of enshittification in other products I do use. It’s also a shame seeing a company throw away their goodwill for a few extra dollars. (And yes, maybe there’s a bit of getting whipped up by all the RSS feeds I read).
