It finally happened.

Every so often I see someone get out of the seat to depart the train when it arrives at the station. One of these days, someones going to do that, and they’ll miss their opportunity to get off, I thought. Well, this morning, it finally happened. Someone got up to leave and only managed to reached the doors the moment they locked for departure. He had to get off the next stop.

Under normal circumstances he probably would’ve made it off. But train drivers have a habit of dwelling for only a few seconds when they see nobody get on or off the train. That’s one of the reasons why I always tried to get to the doors before the train stops at the station. When the driver unlocks the doors, and sees people alighting, they’re more likely to dwell for the full 15-20 seconds.

Of course, the other reason I do this is because I’m an anxious person that doesn’t want to experience what happened to this bloke today.
