Blogger Archetype Quiz: My Written-in Answers

The Blogger Archetype Quiz posted by James on his Coffee Blog crossed my radar when I was browsing Bubbles. I had a go at answering them, and I couldn’t get pass the first four questions. None of the options really described me at all. But they were still good questions, so I figured I’d submit my “written in answers” to them here. They won’t help me know what sort of archetype blogger I am, but maybe others can form that opinion and let me know.

When you are spending time outdoors, what do you like to do best?

I’m taking “outdoors” meaning anything that involves being outside, as in not in a building. If so, most of the time, I’m going for a walk or doing something a little mundane, like cleaning the garden. And during those times, I mainly listen to music or podcasts. If I venture out somewhere unfamiliar, I may go somewhere new or watch the world go by. But that doesn’t happen that often.

What do you do when you are in search of an idea to write about?

I don’t really search for ideas to write about. I tend to let ideas come to me, usually as I go about my day. This does mean I post about topics that don’t age well, but c’est la vie.

What do you do first when you find a new blog you like?

It takes me a while before I consider following a new blog. It’s usually after I see them being linked to by others over time. I connect the dots and say “oh, it’s them.” Of course there are exceptions. If a piece really grabs me, I tend to jump into the archive and see what else they’ve written, and if they’re just as good, I tend to add their RSS feed to my reader.

Suppose you have 20 open tabs that have been sitting for a few days. What do you do with them?

Usually when I see 20 open tabs that have been sitting for a few days, I’m at work, and they’re work tabs, and they get closed at the end of the week. 😀 But this does occasionally happen for tabs that interest me. If I haven’t done anything with them for a while, I tend to save them in my bookmarking service du jour and close them.

Do you do any of the following?

I occasionally write in guestbooks, and very occasionally reach out to other bloggers via email. I definitely don’t chat with other bloggers IRL (living on the other side of the world from those I tend to follow helps here). Participate in communities? Not sure what that means. Comment? Like? etc.? Yes, I do that. And I definitely blog about blogging.

What do you like to do when you find a cool link?

I tend to post about it here, or it goes into the bookmarking service, maybe via the open tabs I was closing.

Have people written responses to your blog posts before?

I’ve seen a few responses to what I’ve written, and they’re always wonderful to read. I tried to respond in kind: when I want to say something that’s larger than a few sentences, I link to their post and make my comment here.

What is your dream evening?

Working on something I look forward to working on. Seeing friends and family are good evenings too.

Complete the sentence. My friends would say I am the one who…

Probably “daydream” is the best answer of the bunch. My friends never said that to me, but family members certaintly have. 😀

Complete the sentence. I like to post:

“Everything that’s on my mind” is probably the best answer of the bunch, even though I don’t post everything that crosses my mind.

And those are my answers. So, what sort of archetype blogger am I? I wonder that myself.
