I wish more modern code editors adopted the same approach to extensions as the editors of yore: a script interpreter with a broad yet approachable API. Needing to setup a brand new developer environment is too much for the small things you simply want to hack together.
I’m kinda going to blame Eclipse for this. The amazing, configurable, wiz-bang editor to end all editors. Capable of being anything you want it to be. Want to extend it? Well, how’s your tolerance with a bajillion Java classes?
